Oregon College Of Art & Craft Adjunct Instructor Of Book Arts Oregon College of Art & Craft seeks adjunct book arts instructor/s to teach between one and three courses, depending on the successful candidate?s strengths and skills, starting and ending in the academic year 2008/2009. Bookbinding is offered in the fall semester, and Beginning Letterpress and an advanced-level Design Concepts course are offered in the spring semester. The Bookbinding course introduces students to the materials, techniques and processes that help them build traditional casebound books, some innovative structures, basic-to-elaborate boxmaking, along with some paper decoration. Beginning Letterpress covers the basics of handset type, some polymer platemaking and relief techniques, the use of the Vandercook Proof Press and introduces the students to the history of type and contemporary approaches to letterpress. Design Concepts is an advanced-level integrated book arts course which explores the dynamics of sequence, text and image relationships, different approaches to bookmaking, and further technical training in binding and printing. This is an adjunct faculty position, reporting directly to the Book Arts Department Head. The pay per course is $4000 and there are no benefits. There is a potential for on-campus housing, depending on the number of courses taught. There is some opportunity for workshop instruction to supplement the course load. This is a one-year only appointment. The successful candidate will have exhibition and college-level teaching experience, preferably, but not limited to, a terminal degree (MFA or MA) or equivalent experience, and enjoy sharing that experience with the College community. Position at Cornell University Library Preservation and Collection Maintenance Department Preservation Asst V - Assistant Book Conservator - 07437 The Cornell University Library Preservation and Collection Maintenance department is seeking an Assistant Book Conservator. The Assistant Book Conservator is responsible for the conservation treatment of rare and unique library materials contained in the Native American collection. The collection encompasses more than 4,000 rare books, several significant manuscript collections, as well as photographs, artwork, and related materials. Under the direction of the Book Conservator and following professional standards, the Assistant will carry out complex conservation treatment consisting of: analysis and replication of historic structures, conservation of paper and parchment via aqueous and chemical treatment, re-sewing in a variety of styles, leather and vellum rebinding/binding restoration, gold and blind tooling, and construction of clamshell boxes and other enclosures. This is a two-year grant-funded position. Qualifications Bachelors with 2-4 years experience or equivalent combination. Extensive knowledge of book and manuscript conservation techniques as evidenced by: degree/diploma in conservation, and/or apprenticeship completion certificate, and/ or other verifiable certification of advanced training and education. Expertise in leather binding and restoration. At least one year of experience beyond training. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates will be asked to submit a portfolio.
