Miniature Books

"I have been an amateur-hobby bookbinder for several years, and Hewits have been my preferred source for materials from the start. The printed grain leathers respond to being rolled in different directions, so as to enhance the 'natural creasing' effect of the finish, while still accepting tooling in a pleasing way.

My miniature books have become something of a passion for me, and all the binding processes are the same as for a normal size book, but scaled down. My sewing frame has been adapted to accommodate sewing onto cords, even though the spine is less than three inches tall. All other processes - headbands, spine-lining, lacing-on boards, covering, etc - are the same, but in miniature. Photographs of my scaled-down process were seen by the librarian at McGill University in Canada, and used in a presentation the university gave last year."
