Bound by Rosy Gray using Pentland Goat
Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
First Editions 1954 Tolkien books: Lord of the Rings Trilogy: The Return of the King, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers
This set of Lord of The Rings by JRR Tolkien has been rebound using black Pentland leather with a hand painted calf onlay embossed over the top with a decorative gold double line.
The calf skin was hand coloured using gold, and copper over black and orange to create a marbled effect making each volume individual.
The onlays sits on a plain black Pentland goatskin to create a striking design and showcases the leather grain. The onlay image is derived from JRR Tolkie'sn initials which I have reworked a little to create this striking design.
There are two raised bands on the spine with a title and author, in gold, embossed directly in Centaur font using movable brass type. A small coloured leather only at the tail of each book depicts which volume the book is. Marbled endpapers and a slipcase to fit all volumes.
