Aniline Straight Grain Goats skins are synonymous with 18th and 19th Century French bindings. Our skins are tanned and dyed and left with a semi-transparent finish. The skins are then embossed with a straight grain, giving a natural looking and luxurious leather. This leather is ideal for new bindings and restoration work. It will take both gold leaf and foil and can also be blind-tooled. The grain runs parallel to the spine, but can be printed perpendicular to the spine upon request.
You can see examples of books bound in our Aniline Straight Grain Goat in the 'Showcase' area of our web site.

Beautiful skin and really nice leather
A perfect match to a historical rebind I am working on.
A very attractive grain, with great tactile qualities. It takes foil and tooling very well and is particular;ly suited to presentation bindings as well as to personal library volumes.
