Recycling Initiative

terrcycle

Every year countless plastic packets end up in landfill sites across the UK, so that's why we've teamed up with TerraCycle to help put an end to it. We now run a community recycling point at our tannery that is open to anyone who wants to do their part in reducing plastic waste.

We have joined three of their recycling programs: The KP Snacks® Nuts, Popcorn, Crisps and Pretzels Packet Recycling Programme, The Confectionery Recycling Program & The Pringles Tube Recycling Program.

The waste must be empty, and cannot be tied into knots or folded into shapes. We have two separate bins, so the waste that is brought along MUST be separated into one of two categories:

acceptable waste

Not only is recycling these packets & tubes better for the environment, but for every kilogram we send to TerraCycle we receive back a £1 donation for charity, which we have decided to match. The charities our staff have chosen to support through this are 'Drum Riding for the Disabled' & 'MacMillan Cancer Support'.

If you are wanting to try and live a more sustainable life, then please consider bringing your waste to our collection point. We encourage people to only bring waste to us when they've collected a fair amount, so that the journey is worth it from an environmental perspective, and to only come to us if we are the closest collection point to you. You can check this on the TerraCycle website.

We want our collection point to be as accessible as possible, so have setup bins at our fence that anyone can get to regardless of if we are open or not. We are also working hard to make our building more accessible, which will allow those who use mobility aids to access our reception bins during working hours.

If you're needing a bit of help finding where we are, then visit our contact page.

Our 24 hour collection bins are at the fence near our far gate, located at the What3words address ///reform.grew.tested.

Once we have collected enough waste we send it off to TerraCycle who sort, shred, and wash it. This is then densified into plastic granules that can be incorporated into the production of different plastic products, ensuring that the plastic is reused instead of going to landfill. You can learn more about this on their website.
